Hello Penhurst Swim Families!

We are excited for our first swim meet of the season this week! The swimmers have brought so much energy to practice, and we cannot wait to kick off meet season together.

Here are this week’s important updates and reminders:

First Meet @ Sibley Forest – Wednesday, May 27th
Our first meet of the season will be this Wednesday at Sibley Forest! Our team warm-up will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the meet will start at 6:00 p.m. Please arrive by 5:15 to save time for parking, etc. Sibley Forest’s neighborhood pool is located at 629 Gunby Rd., Marietta, GA 30067. Their pool is a 6-lane pool.

Please note that parking at the pool is very limited. Families are strongly encouraged to park at Sope Creek Elementary School and walk to the pool. If you choose to park in the neighborhood, please follow all posted directions and only park in designated areas without blocking driveways or mailboxes. A parking map is attached for reference.

Our team seating area will be located near the baby pool and diving well area. Families are asked to help keep swimmers out of the baby pool and deep end of the main pool during the meet. There should be plenty of shaded seating available for our team. You will want to bring camping chairs as well.

Concessions will be available throughout the meet and will include hamburgers, hot dogs, walking tacos, snacks, drinks, and more. Cash and Venmo will be accepted.

We completely understand that things happen, and swimmers occasionally get sick, or plans change. If your swimmer will not be attending the meet, please email [email protected] as soon as possible that day. These absences can affect relays and notifying us early allows Coach Zack to make on-deck relay adjustments so the other swimmers still have relay opportunities.

Coach Zack will send the official heat sheet on Wednesday after all entries have been merged with the host team. He will also include a separate file that lists each swimmer’s individual events to mark your swimmer’s arms.

Please make sure all swimmer events are written clearly on your swimmer’s arm to help avoid confusion during the meet. Pro tip: this is best done before arriving at the pool! Things can get a little hectic before the meet begins, and the more prepared you are ahead of time, the smoother the evening will go. Always keep sharpies on hand to write these events. Our Meet FAQS give examples of how events should be written. Coaches will be on hand to help if needed.

Meet Volunteers
Wow! Thank you so much to all of our wonderful volunteers! All volunteer positions for Wednesday’s meet have officially been filled. Please review the attached Job Sign Up sheet to double check the role and shift you signed up for before arriving at the meet. For our timers, please note that Sibley Forest uses electronic timing buttons. Your role will simply be to push the button when a swimmer finishes their race. Easy peasy and you get a front row view to cheer on our swimmers! Please make sure you check in at our volunteer table when you arrive. 

Team Shirts & Caps
Team shirts are expected to be delivered on Tuesday and will be distributed during practice on Wednesday. If you are unable to pick up your shirt at practice, you will also be able to pick it up at the meet Wednesday evening from Anne Thompson.

Schedule for This Week

Monday: No practice due to the Memorial Day holiday

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: Normal morning practice schedule

• 6 & Under: 8:30–9:00 a.m.
• 7–8 years: 9:00–9:30 a.m.
• 9–10 years: 9:30–10:15 a.m.
• 11 & Up: 10:15–11:00 a.m.

Thursday: FUN SWIM after the meet for all ages from 10:00–11:00 a.m.
Donuts will be provided, and ribbons will be distributed!

Please note that Fun Swim concludes at 11:00 a.m. If you are not a Penhurst resident, we kindly ask that families head out at that time so the pool can transition to neighborhood use. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
